Wagering Requirements Explained

Wagering requirements (also called playthrough or turnover requirements) are the number of times you must bet the bonus amount — or the bonus plus deposit amount — before you can withdraw any winnings. They are the single most important factor in determining the real value of a casino bonus.

How Wagering Requirements Work

If a bonus says "30x wagering on the bonus amount," and you receive a £10 bonus, you must place bets totalling £300 (30 × £10) before any winnings become withdrawable. Some offers apply the requirement to deposit + bonus combined ("30x deposit + bonus").

Types of Wagering Calculation

  • Bonus-only: Wagering applies only to the bonus amount. Typically the most player-friendly.
  • Deposit + Bonus: Wagering applies to the sum of your deposit and the bonus. Less common in UKGC-licensed casinos.
  • Free spins winnings: Wagering applies to the winnings from the spins, not the spin value.

Game Contribution to Wagering

Not all games contribute equally to wagering requirements. Slots typically contribute 100%, while table games may contribute 10–20% or even 0%. Always check the contribution table in the bonus terms. See our dedicated guide: Game Contribution to Wagering Requirements.

How to Compare Offers by Wagering

To compare two offers:

  1. Identify the wagering multiplier and base (bonus-only or deposit+bonus)
  2. Calculate the total turnover required
  3. Check game contribution percentages
  4. Check the maximum cashout limit (see our guide on Maximum Cashout Explained)
  5. Consider the time limit to meet the requirements

UKGC Requirements

The UK Gambling Commission requires that all wagering terms be prominent, clear, and not misleading. Since 2020, the UKGC has restricted the use of complex wagering conditions. All operators featured on gamblingcheck.com meet these standards.
